I created this series while navigating east coast of the post 2008 American recession as Canadian citizen with an MFA but without a secure work visa. Based in Washington DC, I responded sculpturally to the political and economic volatility of the time by using materials like polystyrene. This lightweight, toxic, highly processed synthetic material allowed my work to visually reference the illusion of security and the industrialized infrastructure lining the NJ Turnpike, the Capital Beltway and the surrounding evacuation routes.
